Falling

Love is that blinding light that peels back the darkness, exposing the twisted roots of vulnerability---wishes and dreams too painful to reveal. The very wings that lift you to the sun's embrace are easily singed by the fire. Like Icarus, you will fall, burn to ashes and scatter like dark confetti across a green sea.

It sleeps, this love, wintering deep in a heart that spring has forgotten. There is the fear of never being loved, of being left behind and bleeding out memories that whisper a spiritual death. Dawn streaming gold through a thin veil of trees is lost on the blind. You feel your way through corridors of the past, conceal the bruises carried quietly inside you. You cannot save the broken soul with cracks too deep to heal.

Love is that cage where birds dream of taking flight. Release it and its name will stain your lips. The secrets you share burn slowly from embers to thaw the frozen heart. Desire spreads its wings, bringing light to all the hurts you've worn like a badge of courage. Wipe away the tears and catch the one who is falling.

  1. Beautiful reminder of the healing qualities of love. And the fact that we sometimes need to be brave enough to let it in.

    1. Thank you for the kind words and what you said is so true--like that saying: "Better to have loved and lost than to have never loved at all..."

  4. I am so glad that despite all the hurt I have suffered throughout the many years of my life, that I have known deep 'love'. There is nothing like it. It can be imagined or faked and I just loved how you opened this post in the first sentence
"love is that blinding light that peels back the darkness, exposing the twisted roots of vulnerability" its perfect to me. And I love the first picture of all those tangled branches but yet you can still see through it. The whole post is brilliant. Now you got me thinking of LOVE.

Just noticed you have the GFC, I'm definitely following this site for more.

    1. Love makes us vulnerable to all the hurts in the world, and yet it opens up a whole NEW world of beauty and things unseen at the same time. Like oxygen--you can't exist without it.

    1. It DOES take courage to let those feelings in. Everyone gets hurt sooner or later but the brave ones dust themselves off and get right back in. What is life without it?

  7. As usual, this post blew me away. I cried all the way through it earlier (when it came in my e-mail). The writing is so raw; the photos are incredible and I just have to say how lucky I am to know you. I'm giving you an award you already have, but it's only because I love your awesomeness :) -You can follow the rules or throw it on your sidebar. Just know it comes to you with pure love.

  12. This is beautiful and so very real... I'm not sure I can give new love a chance... I see me pushing those opportunities away so that I won't be hurt... besides I'm still very much in love with my David... even if I'm not with him... :'(

You have a new follower ;-)

    The pictures are so amazing!!!!

  13. You can't be afraid to give new love a chance. I also think that people can love more than once in their life--- even simultaneously. You will always love your David, but at the same time if you meet someone new, I think it's possible to love another person as well. There is always room in the heart to love more than one person---don't let being hurt in the past hold you back from feeling the exhilaration of falling in love again.

  23. This is beautiful. You really should consider jumping in at OctPoWriMo. (October Poetry Writing Month) It's 31 poems in 31 days, but you can jump in any time on any of the days. The prompt the other day was "Love is..." and this is perfect.
